Pooja is a high school student at Harker. I started learning Bharatnatyam from Guru Vishal Ramani since I was five. I performed my Arangetram on July 14th, 2007 and am the 81st graduate of Shri Krupa. In addition to classical dance, I also perform at the high school conservatory Junior Varsity dance program. I was a level 6 competitive gymnast and qualified for the California state meet in November 2008.Dance is a passion for me and I enjoyed participating in several Shri Krupa dance ballets. In March of 2008, I was part of the Shri Krupa team that competed at the International Amateur Dance Competition in Barcelona and won two trophies. Winning these trophies for Vishal Aunty was the most exciting event of my life. In August of 2009 I dedicated an entire performance to raise awareness and funds for the Sankara Eye Foundation which helps eradicating curable blindness in India. To be able to use my love and skill in Bharatanatyam for such a cause was the most satisfying experience and I hope to be able to do more in the years to come. I participated with many Shri Krupa senior Arangetram graduates and dedicating short dance ballets to our beloved Guru, Vishal Ramani. This once-in-a-decade surprise offering of gratitude from students to the Guru was the most enjoyable performance. This august (2011), I will be performing in India along with my sister Lekha, at my Grandparent’s 50th wedding anniversary. I plan to continue my journey in Bharatanatyam for many more years. Besides Bharatanatyam and all forms of dance, I love animals and travel and seek out a little bit of adventure in every aspect of life. |
