Medha Acharya was born in India and raised in Japan and in California. Her passion for art led her to start learning Bharatanatyam at Shri Krupa Dance Company. Medha officially began her training at the age of 5, under the training of her guru, Vishal Ramani. After 6 years of training, she completed her arangetram on July 10, 2010, at the young age of 11. After Medha’s arangetram, she has performed in many group performances and solo dances. She has participated in several KKNC (Kannada Koota North California) and KAOCA (Konkani Association Of California) events, with many solo Bharatanatyam pieces. At OSAAT in December 2010, her group won 3rd place in the Junior Classical competition. She also won 2nd place in her age group in BATA’s Dhim Tana competition in April 2011. Within the school itself, Medha has performed in the annual Vijaydashmi celebrations, and also in the yearly Concord Temple fundraisers in Cubberley Theater and the Concord Shiva Murugan Temple. In 2008, Medha performed in the Ramayana ballet by Shri Krupa Dance Company. Medha also participated in 2010’s Samarpanam.
Aside from Bharatanatyam, Medha loves to dance in other styles, like folk and Bollywood, and performs a lot for those forms too. She hopes to become skilled at more complex dance and choreography later on in her life. Medha really enjoys singing, acting, and painting. She is a member of her school’s choir and an avid reader and writer. Medha also loves sports like soccer, basketball, and volleyball.
